A foundation dedicated to the rehabilitation of birds of prey and the protection of wildlife in Ecuador.
The journey of Mateus Foundation began in 2015, when we promoted the program “Raptors in flight” – together with the Guayllabamba Zoo – to rescue trafficked and injured birds of prey. In 2018, we decided to start our own project called Jardín Alado; a center designed to not exhibit birds behind bars, but to offer them a real opportunity for rehabilitation and freedom.
Initially, we rented a large compound located in Tumbaco, but the pandemic pushed us to look for a new space. Today, we operate by the foothills of the Ilaló volcano, thanks to the support of people and companies that believe in our work.
As a non-profit organization, we have always relied entirely on the trust and generosity of our supporters, without depending on any public funding, and despite the challenges, we remain committed to wildlife protection.
Since 2023, thanks to the incentives in force established by the government of Daniel Noboa, the companies that sponsor us can deduct up to 150% off their income tax return, without the need for laborious processes. Recognizing the importance of the contribution that those who bet on animal welfare and conservation provide for the wellbeing of the country.
We believe that all of us have a responsibility to protect the world’s precious wildlife, not just in our lifetime, but for generations to come.
